I first attended the Southeast Regional Folk Alliance (SERFA) in Montreat, NC in 2016. There I met Si Kahn, a devoted and lifelong activist, and co-founder of a group known as Musicians United to Protect Bristol Bay, dedicated to raising awareness through music about this pristine and ecologically sensitive area in Alaska (also one of the world’s premier spawning grounds for salmon), and the major threat being posed there by a mining company seeking to create what has become known as “The Pebble Mine”, an open pit gold, copper and molybdenum mine that would sit directly next to the headwaters of Bristol Bay and threaten to severely and permanently damage the area and devastate the salmon populations.

“Price on Heaven (Song for Bristol Bay)”, is my musical contribution to this effort, and speaks to the fact that some things are far too precious to squander for short-term profit, and that you can’t "put a price on Heaven”. The song has won two awards to date, including First Place in Musicians United International Song Contest 2017, and Second Place in the Connecticut Environmental Song Contest 2016, open to writers from anywhere.
