Biography
Mark "Pocket" Goldberg: Bio
Bio Bluesier than his previous releases, Mark “Pocket” Goldberg’s new cd “Off The Alleyway” showcases his Americana songwriting at its natural best. Featuring twelve all-original tunes artfully co-produced with band mates Debra Dobkin (Bonnie Raitt & Richard Thompson) and Nick Kirgo (Les McCann & Nels Cline) [the band is rounded out by the multi-talented Dave Fraser on keys, harmonica, accordion & vocals] and including guest appearances by respected old friends James Gadson (drums), Jay Dee Maness (pedal steel), Terry Evans (vocals), Barry Goldberg (Wurlitzer piano), Darrell Leonard & Joe Sublett (Texacali Horns), Mike Thompson (trombone), Teresa James (vocals), Billy Watts (vocals), Greg Prestopino (vocals) & Lauren Adams (vocals). “Off The Alleyway” moves along smoothly through influences that echo the roots of Blues, Folk, Soul and Good Ole Rock ‘n’ Roll featuring Pocket’s unique vocals (which have been described as Howlin’ Wolf & Johnny Cash meet Randy Newman & Leonard Cohen at the Annual Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong Bar-B-Que Picnic), but you’ll have to listen for yourself because his voice is truly his own. The lyrics (world-weary & honest) flow perfectly with the rootsy grooves & eclectic yet soulful accompaniment. Career History For decades now, Mark “Pocket” Goldberg has been a respected “Roots” Bass player (upright & electric) who has had the honor of making music with some of the most talented artists of his day including: Live Performance & Tours (partial) Mick Fleetwood’s Blue Whale (with Joe Walsh & John Mayall) Floyd Dixon (with Roscoe Gordon & Charles Brown) Willie Dixon (with Luther Tucker & Cash McCall) Finis Tasby (with John Lee Hooker & Lowell Fulsom) Barry Goldberg (with Mick Taylor & Terry Reid) Buddy Guy & Junior Wells (with Al Duncan) Canned Heat (with Harvey Mandell & Junior Watson) Screamin’ Jay Hawkins (with Mike Keneally & Bo Diddley, Jr.) Joey Bonamassa (with Stephen Stills & Earl King) Nelson Brothers (with Jeff “Skunk” Baxter & Cary Park) James Intveld (with Jay Dee Maness & Eddie Perez) Rosie Flores (with Greg Leisz & Skip Edwards)
