Biography
Award-winning independent recording artist Ginger Sands draws her musical inspiration from a love of storytelling in all its forms. Her newest release, “Back to the Garden” is a reggae inflected blend of folk and folk-rock songs celebrating the garden, nature and re-connecting to the land. Greatly inspired by the sustainable/local food movement, Ginger covers a range artists from Tom Petty to Dolly Parton in this album. “Garden” also features songs harvested from local Nashville songwriters such as the award winning Tia Siller’s “Hummingbird” and Rachel Newman’s “Earth Girl.” In Back to the Garden, Sands has creates a positive, accessible listening experience “for gardeners and other earthlings.”

When not playing and recording music, Ginger is active in the education and arts communities. She has taught and presented arts-integrated programming to young children in schools and libraries throughout Tennessee as well on the West Coast. Since 2007 she has been an “artist-in-residence” for the nationally acclaimed Wolf Trap “early learning through the arts” program, which provides arts-infused learning experiences for children in Head Start. Her recording for children, The Gift of Make-Believe received a Parent’s Choice Recommended Award, a NAPPA (Nat’l Association of Parenting Publications) Gold Award and was nominated as “Best Children’s Recording” by the Nashville Music Awards. The video version of “Make-Believe” earned a Telly award for excellence in media.

In addition to preparing for the release of Back to the Garden, Ginger Sands continues to explore various avenues of writing, performance and production in music and theater in the larger Nashville community. She is a member of ASCAP, the Americana Music Association and the Tennessee Association for Arts in Education.

In the coming months, she is looking forward to promoting “peace, love and homegrown tomatoes” through music, arts and educational venues.
