'Twists & Bends--Various Vermont Artists' is a compilation project that pays tribute to several Vermont-based independent artists and features 16 brand new songs and one cover song. These artists range from up-and-coming artists to national touring artists. The artists' songs run the gamut of Americana, AAA, and Folk.

Artist mini-bios in track order:

Lisa Piccirillo’s debut release, Momentum, is nothing short of an emotional catharsis. The up and coming artist's first full-length CD chronicles poignant observations and personal experiences through a satisfying blend of folk and pop, allowing the R&B tendencies and technical intricacies of Piccirillo's vocals, truly shine through. Lisa is 1/3 of the trio Hotels & Highways who co-wrote the song Train Whistle recorded by The Hillbenders (Compass Records). She is a member of the Gregory Douglass Band and a cover band called The Tricksters. Lisa is presently working on her next solo album.

Phil Henry is that rare contemporary folk artist who will impress you from every direction. There’s his sweet and strong voice, that intricate and flawless guitar work, and songs so rich and sweeping you’ll wish you wrote them yourself. He’s an old-school storyteller who builds songs from a place of honesty. Phil has been honored by the top tastemakers in contemporary folk and played the big stages – from Kerrville to Falcon Ridge. His latest releases include Robots And Romances and the EP Hillside Sessions. Phil's most recent full-album release is entitled "Aberdeen".

Lowell Thompson and his band Crown Pilot have been hailed as the “next big thing” for the Alt-Country set. Dark winters up north, an encyclopedic knowledge of Americana mixed with punk rock sensibilities, and a heart easily broken (and re-broken) make for songs and shows that are crushing and redemptive. His release, Lowell Thompson and Crown Pilot, was given a shout-out by Rolling Stone magazine. His most recent release is called Strangers Advice.

He displays the songwriting skills of an “old soul” with “the voice of an angel” (Seven Days). His 2011 release, Lucid, was featured on NPR’s Morning Edition. Douglass was a finalist in the 2012 Mountain Stage songwriting contest. He has toured the country multiple times and opened for artists including Grace Potter, Anais Mitchell, Jason Mraz, and Shawn Colvin. According to Pandora founder, Gregory is one of the top played independent artists. Stay tuned for his 2016 release--"My Hero, The Enemy".

Steve Hartmann, after years as the front man for the acoustic/rock group Simon, has ventured forth as a solo artist with his newest release, "Waking Up the Echoes". Hartmann crafts acoustic songs about life and friendship in a variety of tones. Whether a soft ballad or a harsh melody, his songs tell of the high and low points in his life and the lives of his friends, with a comforting conviction and haunting honesty. Steve recently released a haunting cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' on iTunes.

Bow Thayer has been singing and writing songs for as long as he can remember. He has lived up to his "reputation as a sublimely gifted artist" by pursuing a creative vision that seeks to lead Americana music into the future. American Songwriter Magazine says this "one-time Levon Helm compatriot is the best artist to come from New England in recent years." His most recent albums--Bottom of the Sky, Hindsight, and Eden—have gained much attention. Bottom of the Sky hit #40 at Americana radio, just behind Wanda Jackson. Bow recently invented the Bojotar, a combination of banjo and electric guitar, now being manufactured and sold by Eastwood Guitars. Bow's new album, Sundowser, features his new invention.

Crazyhearse emerged from the sleepy depths of Vermont's Champlain Valley, waking the dead with their boot-stomping anthems. An intoxicating blend of Americana, punk rock, and Transylvanian folklore, they’ve been labeled everything from rural industrial to swamp rock to gothic folkabilly. Listeners should check out their past release, Crazyhearse IV, and their newest release "Tornadic Beige" (2014).

Taryn Noelle is not a songwriter. However, she is a fabulous singer, actress, dancer, and choreographer. She spent time at NYC’s famed Circle in the Round. Taryn, and her cohort, Juliet McVicker, who make up 2/3rds of the trio, Blue Gardenia’s (along with Amber deLaurentis), were asked to cover the old-time Jimmie Rodger’s tune, Frankie & Johnny, for the album Twists & Bends. With producer Colin McCaffrey’s guidance, they give the tune a western-swing spin. Taryn will be releasing a solo album late 2016.

The Aerolites, a five-piece Vermont-based band, combine elements of rock, folk, Americana, and funk. Their 2012 album was recorded in Hollywood with Oteil Burbridge and Kenny Aronoff. Their song Electric Cigarette was featured in a Dennis Quaid movie. Their newest release, 34 Mansfield was recorded in a historic Vermont farmhouse. And their song "Bronx Bull" will be used in the movie of the same name.
