Biography
This 16-track debut compilation from Santa Barbara Records gathers 8 incredible artists, each contributing 2 songs —one original and one California-themed cover. The collection clearly articulates the spirit and feel that we call “CaliAmericana” — a broad spectrum of styles and performances encompassing the distinct sounds rooted in the space between Bakersfield‘s country-western grit & Laurel Canyon’s golden acoustic glow.
Santa Barbara Records is more than just a record label. Beyond releasing great music, our goal is to generate meaningful, cultural, and economic impact in our community. Using a Music Cities approach, we endeavor to grow our creative economy and to reimagine the role of music and artists in the growth and revitalization of our community and region.
Santa Barbara Records is committed to the promotion and expansion of Americana, Singer-songwriter, and Acoustic Roots music. While Americana is authentic, soulful music that speaks to the heart of the American experience, a Santa Barbara Records artist is an artist who represents these diverse influences and inclusive ideals while simultaneously speaking from a fresh perspective, and remaining authentic, original, and integral to the Americana legacy.
CaliAmericana, our debut record, embodies this grand tradition while also reaffirming California’s historic place as home to some of the greatest Americana, Folk, and Acoustic Roots artists ever recorded. A unique conflation of rural and urban, mountains and sea, dessert and snow that reflects and distills the American experience. It is Americana through a West Coast lens. This unique compilation record introduces eight incredible new artists representing the diversity that is at the core of the Americana sound: Jessie Payo, Omar Velasco, Hana Aluna, Danny McGaw, Tina Schlieske, Mendeleyev, Hanna Siglin, and ERLAND run the range from country to folk, rock, and soul.
