This song is about Edie Sedgwick and Andy Warhol, The Velvets and the whole factory dark glamour. It was the beginning of Glam but also Goth in my opinion. Venus In Furs, and the heroin-chic live fast/die young hip-but-very-dangerous underbelly of the street ethic. It often has a heartbreaking outcome and is not sustainable. It’s like a subway car that was going way too fast in the night that derailed, things just went sideways...in contrast to the idealistic flower-child 60s bullshit.
