Biography
Borne out of a lifetime of Texas experiences from the Brazos Valley to the High Plains and from West Texas to the Piney Woods, native son Rio King sings his tight lyrics with humor and irony.
Born in Wichita Falls and spending his teen years in Dallas, Rio went to Lubbock to go to college, raise a family and, as it turned out, start a band. Playing rock and roll throughout West Texas and New Mexico, "The Techniques" scored a regional hit single, "Dream Theme", recorded by the famous Norman Petty at his Clovis, NM studio.
After college, Rio kept his finger in the songwriting pie, performing two years as a Songwriter Finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival. The past several years he's enjoyed jamming and sitting in with local bands in the Fort Worth, Dallas and Austin areas.
He recently asked Austin musician and record producer, Chris Gage at MoonHouse Records to help put this project together and in no time Chris assembled a studio of Austin's finest country musicians. The variety of music and the versatility of Chris and artists Redd Volkaert and Earl Poole Ball have produced a collection of upbeat songs that can be enjoyed repeatedly. See if you don't agree!
