PENNY JO GOING NATIONAL WITH NEW AMERICANA CD RELEASE
Greezy Wheels Singer Penny Jo Pullus’ Releases Her Fifth Solo CD

On April 17th, Penny Jo Pullus celebrates the highly anticipated release of her CD, Through The Glass (MaHatMa Records) Penny Jo Pullus is finally getting the national release and attention she so richly deserves. Her latest is a cd with hits to spare, a rare and vibrant collection of works produced (in collaboration) by Ron Flynt, late of the band 20/20, and one of Austin’s top producers. Joining Penny Jo on this cd, is an A-list of Austin musicians, including Ian McLagan (Small Faces, The Faces, The Bump Band, and member of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame), Jimmy LaFave, John Bush (Edie Brickell And the New Bohemians, Greezy Wheels), Will Sexton, Matt Giles (Tortilla Flats, Marcia Ball Band), Scrappy Jud Newcomb (Resentments, Bump Band), Chip Dolan (Shelley King, Kelly Willis) and Cleve Hattersley (Greezy Wheels).

Penny Jo, who blanches at the title “country chick singer,” didn’t just touch down in the business, either. She’s earned her props as one of Austin’s most-sought after back-up vocalists, after an early award-winning career in northern New York. Her first band, Penny Jo’s Trailer Trash, won numerous ‘Sammy’ awards in the highly competitive Syracuse music scene, before Penny Jo migrated first to Nashville, then to Austin.

It has been in Austin that she has found her musically eclectic and organic ideal, a heady combination of roots and pop stylings that now defines her unique sound. Penny Jo truly is in her element as she charts a musical course squarely between Roseanne Cash and Lucinda Williams, with a hip shake and nod to the Stones and the Ronettes. Hers is a great big voice, a mighty twang that takes a song, whether she writes it or not, and makes it real - heartbreakingly, soulfully, unmistakably real.
