Biography
Born in South Philadelphia, PA, Larry Chance grew up in a neighborhood that spawned such talents as Fabian, Frankie Avalon, Chubby Checker, Mario Lanza, Danny & the Juniors, Joey Bishop, David Brenner, and many more. It was here Chance began his love affair with show business. In 1955, his family moved to the Bronx in NY where Larry discovered that vocal groups were to be found on almost every street corner. Larry developed his own Doo-**** band in 1957 with five friends. Originally called the High-Hatters, by 1960 the group had evolved into "The Earls" and enjoyed a string of hits including “Remember Then”, “Never”, “Life Is But A Dream”, “I Believe” and many more.
Through the years, the original members of the Earls moved on to other things and Larry Chance struck out on a solo career that has lasted more than 40 years. A disco phase gave way to big band and jazz vocal recordings that rival Mel Torme. As “Oldies Revival” tours came along in the 70’s & 80’s, Larry resurrected the Earls under the name Larry Chance and The Earls and still plays occasional shows under that name. He was featured in the PBS Doo-**** Revival show recorded at Carnegie Hall in 2005. No matter the genre, Larry’s voice has remained distinctive and strong!
Which brings us to 2010. Larry had been dabbling in Country music with Fred Imus (Don’s brother) and decided it was time to record a Country album. Where better to do that than Nashville and he was introduced to legendary producer Dennis Money. Larry’s album was recorded at Dennis’ Evergreen Studio in July, 2010. Although much of the material is traditional Country, Doo-**** is represented with the 1st single, a Country version of the Jerry Butler classic “For Your Precious Love”. As always, Larry’s signature voice transcends genre and the results will appeal to fans new and old.
