A Different Kind Of Train - Releasing November 10th,2018


I started working on this record soon after the release of The Daredevil Kid in 2014. I had written a couple of new songs for my band shows and some more introspective songs while I was on the road by myself. While I was in Austin, Texas, for John Conquests not SXSW in 2015, during a visit with Mark Hallman at The Congress House, I shared some of the new songs I had been working on, which led to a session a couple of days later. Those songs sat for a while as I put things in place to finish the record. I really love playing with The Craig Moreau Band and wanted to showcase the fine work of Ben Tagseth, Orlando Agostino Curt Doherty and Scott Dionne, so I scheduled some time with Leeroy Stagger at The Rebeltone Ranch Studio in Lethbridge, Alberta and recorded a few ‘live off the floor’, adding Micheal Ayotte on the keys.
Back to Austin to cut a few more with the help of Kim Deschamps on Steel and Dobro, Barbara Nesbitt on Harmony Vocals, Andre Moran adding some great guitar work and the incredible Mark Hallman doing everything else, we ended up with some new sounds and a true Americana record!

This one was recorded live off the floor at The Rebeltone Ranch in Lethbridge, AB. An uptempo hopeful song featuring the fine work of The Craig Moreau Band. A bit Rockabilly, a bit Honky Tonk, we call it Honkabilly!

2. The Best Of Me (4:57)

This was 20 minutes of sheer emotion put to music. Written in the moment, of the moment. One of those songs a writer just has to get out. We originally did this one in Lethbridge but found a couple of mistakes (mine) after we left, so I re-recorded it in Austin, Texas with Barbara Nesbit and Mark Hallman adding some stellar vocal work.

3. Another Fence To Mend (3:29) (featured track)

A song about that one regret that you can’t let go of. What could have been, what was and what is, all rolled into one. A one sided conversation with a memory. Recorded in Austin with Mark Hallman adding the haunting slide guitar and harmony vocals.

4. The L&N Don’t Stop Here Anymore (4:09)

This one was written by Jean Ritchie in the late 1940’s. I love the imagery in this song. I had been doing this song live for quite some time and really like the tempo and the feel that the band brought to this. We recorded this one in Lethbridge and actually got it in the first take!

Written in tribute to a dear friend that was taken by addiction. I sat on this one for long time as it was a tough one for me to share. Recorded in Austin, With Mark Hallman adding the beautiful harmonica work.

This was recorded in Lethbridge with my band. Don’t know where this came from but I sure like the way it turned out. A bluesy/rock mix on a song about giving for the sake of giving. No strings, no judgement. A beautiful mix of stellar guitar and Hammond B3, solid beat and bass line. I dare you to not tap along with this one.

A travelers lament. Recorded in Austin. I tried to really portray the feeling of driving through day and night and the thoughts that run through my mind on a 20 hour road trip. Hopes, regrets and choices.

A fun Country Blues song recorded in Austin. A bit of a confessional about my misspent youth put to a nice simple melody. We really love doing this one live and it's an ever evolving song in our repertoire.

Written and recorded while in Austin in 2015. I wrote this one for my wife who has always encouraged and allowed my wanderer spirit and my pursuit of that elusive dream. Mark Hallman did some phenomenal work to get the sound and feel that I was looking for, but couldn’t quite explain.
