REBEL RECORDS RELEASES MORE CLASSIC CATALOGUE TO GLOBAL RADIO

“To kick off our next batch of releases to global radio, we are excited to share the upcoming album of young, traditional bluegrass band High Fidelity, set for release June 12. In addition, we have dug deep into our catalog to present a number of important titles from the early days of Rebel Records.
Few bands have come along in recent years that directly draw their influence from the forefathers of bluegrass. High Fidelity is a rising group whose love and devotion to that music is unsurpassed. Banjo Player’s Blues, High Fidelity’s second Rebel release, shows their love for tradition, brother duets, virtuosic instrumental innovation, well-crafted harmony, gospel music, and banjos.
Along with the Country Gentlemen, Bill Emerson and Cliff Waldron helped put Rebel Records on the bluegrass map in the 1960s. The album Bluegrass Country was Emerson and Waldron’s second release for the label and features the first ever bluegrass recording of “Fox on the Run,” a mainstay in the genre today. The Best of Emerson and Waldron gathers 18 of their strongest cuts across three Rebel LPs. Striking out on his own after he and Emerson parted ways, Cliff Waldron recorded nine albums for Rebel. The Best of Cliff Waldron features choice material from those LPs he recorded throughout the 70s.
We are excited to make “The Young Fisherwoman” – one of the “Classic” Country Gentlemen’s truly great yet obscure songs – available to DJs for the first time. Sensational Twin Banjos is a fantastic banjo extravaganza from The Gent’s banjo ace Eddie Adcock and five-string legend Don Reno. While traveling with The Country Gentlemen on a 1970 tour of Japan, Rebel founder Dick Freeland discovered the Bluegrass 45 and brought them to America to record their self-titled Rebel debut.
Rounding out this month are three relatively unknown yet remarkable bluegrass bands. Another group from the fertile DC bluegrass scene was Benny and Vallie Cain, a husband and wife duo. The self-titled album featured here is one of two recordings they did with Rebel. While many early Rebel acts hailed from the DC area, not all bands did. Roy McMillan’s High Country and A.L. Wood’s Sing A Bluegrass Song highlight the distinctive hard-driving sounds of the North Carolina Piedmont.”
