Sometimes truth can be more amazing than fiction, and this certainly seems to apply to the career of Stonewall Jackson, one of the true living legends of Country Music. First, Stonewall Jackson is his real name. Second, he became the first and only totally unknown artist ever signed to the roster of the Grand Ole Opry.
Stonewall was raised in southern Georgia where he spent his childhood working on an uncle's farm. At sixteen he falsified his birth certificate and joined the Army, but he was discovered and discharged. As soon as he turned seventeen he joined the Navy. It was there that he learned to play the guitar. Combining this with his natural singing talent. Stonewall decided that the music business was just the career for him.
After his discharge, Stonewall, wearing his farm clothes, drove to Nashville in an old pick-up truck. He asked a pretty girl for directions into town. Little did he know that one day she would become his lovely wife, Juanita.
Finding his way to Acuff-Rose Publishing Company, the firm that handled the legendary Hank Williams, Stonewall got an audition with Wesley Rose. His authentic appearance and original songs so charmed Rose that he arranged an audition with "The Solemn Old Judge", George Hay, the manager of the Grand Ole Opry. That weekend Stonewall was heard across the country on clear channel WSM as the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.
It wasn't long before Stonewall charmed the rest of the nation as well with his number one best selling recording of "Waterloo". He followed this with countless other top hits such as "I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water", "A Wound Time Can't Erase", "Why I'm Walking", and "Don't Be Angry".
Through it all Stonewall has remained just as warm, honest and authentic as he was the day he first arrived in Nashville. His amazing career marks him as one of the true legends and genuine stars of Country Music.
