Short Bio and Album Info:
Rick Ednie is a songwriter and musician from Santa Cruz, CA. Rick performs Bluegrass and Americana as both a solo artist and with bands in the Santa Cruz and South Bay regions including Rick Ednie’s Bluegrass Roundup in the bluegrass genre and Heathen Hill in the Americana genre.

Rick released two solo albums in the first half of 2015 with “White Turtle Dove” being the most recent (June 2015).

Produced by Rick Ednie and Joe Weed, "White Turtle Dove" introduces fans to some of Rick's contemporary Bluegrass originals. The album includes nine original tracks featuring Rick on guitar, mandolin, and vocals with an all-star lineup of well known Santa Cruz regional and California based bluegrass power hitters including Mike Witcher on dobro, Luke Abbott on fiddle, Bradley Richter on mandolin, and Jason Lampel on Banjo.

White Turtle Dove consists of several fast paced tunes with active breaks and tight two and three part harmony vocals. The album also features a waltz (track four) and an instrumental (track nine). You'll Be My Darlin' (track three) has an old-timey feel, while “Cabin by the Creek” (track eight) has an alt-folk/country sound, but still holds true to bluegrass making "White Turtle Dove" a great crossover album for both Bluegrass and Americana fans alike.

Album Liner notes:

I was performing regularly at a local venue when the owner decided not to pay the license fees to the performing rights organization. It was explained I could no longer play cover songs, but could play originals. This motivated me to rework my old songs and write new material, leading to the culmination of this album.

I would like to thank Joe Weed for his time and effort in co-producing this project with me and for his stories, opinions, patience, and his musical and production talents at the mixing board. Special thanks as well to Bradley Richter for being my soundboard and resource throughout this project and for his contributions to the lyrics, song and harmony arrangements; to Hildy Licht for the loan of her fabulous bass; to Jeff Hayes for the loan of his Campanella F-5 mandolin; to Suzanne Suwanda for the loan of her horse saddle and chaps; to the members of Heathen Hill for their support and patience with the evolution of these songs; and to all the players for their time and dedication to this project. Long Bio:

Rick was born in Philadelphia, but was raised west of the city in the dairy and corn fields of eastern PA. He began playing music "by ear" on his mother's piano spending many hours playing and singing with records from artists such as The Everly Brothers, John Denver, Niel Diamond, Cat Stevens and others.

Through his teens and early adulthood, Rick listened to classic rock and acoustic rock from the 60's and 70's. His first concert was the Canadian band RUSH at the Philadelphia Spectrum in 1984. Other artists and bands he enjoyed during this period included Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, Judas Priest, and others.

Rick played the Alto Saxophone starting in elementary school and continued with the instrument through his high school years.

Rick's guitar playing began at age 21 when he "borrowed" his father's 70's era Sigma DR-1 acoustic dreadnought guitar. He took guitar lessons at the local music store and not long after bought his first electric guitar, a Fender Strat (American Standard).

Rick was introduced to the music of Stevie Ray Vaughn (who had just passed the month prior) by his guitar teacher. After a year of guitar lessons his teacher referred Rick to a friend for a brief period of instruction by American jazz guitarist and composer Pat Metheny.

After moving to the central coast of California in the mid 1990's, Rick's guitar playing shifted from Texas electric blues to acoustic guitar and Folk, Americana, and Bluegrass music. It was in late August of 2003 while attending a pre-Strawberry Music Festival party, that Rick was bit by the Bluegrass bug.

The sound came from a group of people playing "The Old Home Place" by the Dillards. The melancholy voice of the lyrics with the almost joyous excitement of the song's progression and vocal harmonies, combined with the passing around of leads or "breaks" as Rick would soon learn they were called, was a transformative experience.

Fast forward twelve years later and Rick's newest album "White Turtle Dove" (released June 2015), introduces fans to some of Rick's contemporary Bluegrass originals.
