REBEL RECORDS RELEASES MORE CLASSIC "STANLEY FAMILY" CATALOGUE TO GLOBAL RADIO

"For nearly three quarters of a century, the Stanley name has stood for the very best in bluegrass and old-time mountain music. The Stanley Brothershelped lay the foundations for what we know today as bluegrass; Ralph Stanley soldiered on with a nearly fifty-year solo career. Highlights include membership in the Grand Ole Opry and iconic status due to the 2001 film/soundtrack O Brother, Where Art Thou? Ralph’s joining the Rebel fold in 1971 elevated the label’s status in the bluegrass community; it was a mutually reciprocal relationship that lasted for the next forty-five years. The legacy now continues in the hands of Ralph Stanley II.



For the month of June, we are paying homage to the Stanley Sound with a bumper crop of the best of the best. The Spotlight Release Clinch Mountain Sweethearts finds Ralph Stanley paired with many of the top female vocalists of the day. One of the most soulful albums of the Stanley Brothers career is Long Journey Home; it was tossed off informally at a bootleg session in 1964 and remains a fan favorite. Cry From The Cross dates from 1971 and was Ralph’s debut recording for Rebel. It highlights one of his best bands that included Ricky Skaggs, Keith Whitley, and the golden-voiced Roy Lee Centers.

Old Home Place features fine re-makes of several past Stanley classics and is a nice showcase for the vocals of Keith Whitley. Kentucky native Charlie Sizemore started with Ralph at age sixteen and came of age in the Stanley band; he served up some mighty fine singing on the early 1980s album the Memory Of Your Smile. In the middle 1990s, Ralph paid homage to one of his early influences – fiddler G. B. Grayson – with a collection called Short Life Of Trouble.

Ralph Stanley II apprenticed in his father’s band in the middle and late 1990s before launching his own group. A highlight from this portion of his solo career is Stanley Blues. The father and son reunited for Side By Side, which turned out to be the elder’s final recording for Rebel. Last, but by no means least, are two anthologies by Ralph Stanley. Mountain Preacher’s Child is a collection of choice gospel songs while Old-Time Pickin’ sports Ralph playing the banjo clawhammer style."  ~ Mark Freeman, President - Rebel Records
