The text by Dix first appeared in London in 1871. The melody is the old English ballad,
"Greensleeves", which was already old when Shakespeare referred to it. One early version of it was
licensed to tbe register of The Stationer's Company in 1580. It was called "The New Year's Carol",
by 1642. We take a reverent, but Latino-Jazz approach here, reflecting our New Mexico surroundings.
