We Three Kings
9. We Three Kings
Words and Music: John Henry Hopkins, Jr. •
Hopkins' unusual melody had a lot of people thinking this was a carol of ancient origin, because of
the melody and the in-depth knowledge of the meaning of each: gift of The Magi; actually, he wrote
it in America in 1857. Hopkins was a New Englander talented in music, art, law, journalism, and
poetry. He became an ordained Episcopal priest in 1872.
