Black Rose
BLACK ROSE
She was born in Ontario
In the land where the cold winds blow
Across the lake from my home town
She was closer then, I could touch her, Black Rose
It’s a long way to California
That’s where she’s living now I’ve been told
A brand new life -- a brand new name
as for me, I still call her Black Rose
Life hits you too hard
Anger, tears, heartache and pain
Undoing what love had made
Revealing the pain that remains
And it hurts so bad, it hurts baby, so bad
Her childhood was anything but good
Battered by her father I’ve been told
And her mother - she saved her ---mothers always do
she’d protect her precious, wounded Black Rose
It’s a long way to California
the only road she really could have chose
Such a dark road --- strewn with broken men
fallen lovers of my perfect Black Rose
Life hits you too hard
Anger, tears, heartache and pain
Undoing what love had made
Revealing the pain that remains
And it hurts so bad, it hurts baby, so bad
It’s a long way to California
Guess I’m kind of tempted I suppose
I could leave Steeltown before sundown
And reclaim her, and rename her Black Rose
Life hits you too hard
Anger, tears, heartache and pain
Undoing what love had made
Revealing the pain that remains
And it hurts so bad, it hurts baby, so bad
