A note from Sandy Newman of Marmalade:
Earlier this year I met a very good friend Doug Lawson who told me he had recently become involved with a charity called Camp Mohawk, an autistic childrens’ facility in Wargrave, Berkshire. He had arranged a fund raising evening with some local bands which had been a great success. Doug and I then discussed what would be good way of raising more money for Camp Mohawk involving music.
I mentioned the fantastic work of Nordoff- Robins Music Therapy to which I was introduced through my old friend Dave Dee. Dave had been involved in Music Therapy since it began and was for 25 years the Speaker at all the lunches designed to raise money via any method possible. I was asked if I could write a Christmas song and agreed to have a go but also mentioned that I thought I had one called “Santa Claus is Coming”... a song which featured in a Marmalade compilation album in the 1990s. When I sent copy to those concerned, they seemed to really like the idea.
We decided to re-record the song with the present line-up of Marmalade and donate all proceeds to the Camp Mohawk Charity and so, with the massive help of Adam Teskey who is contributing his time and manufacturing costs, we hope to bring in lots more funds for Camp Mohawk.
A concert was staged at the Piggott School in Wargrave to launch the song and Marmalade performed along with many other local acts on an afternoon that was a real success for all and more importantly, generated more funds for Camp Mohawk.
It is a pleasure and a privilege to be involved and having visited the facility on several occasions, I have nothing but admiration for everyone who give their time and effort for these children.
I only hope we raise a little more from the proceeds of the sale of this record and wish everyone a great Christmas and Happy Healthy New Year
