Leslie Martin
By Annelle Taylor
Leslie Martin is a tremendous new talent in Gospel Music from Tahlequah, OK. She is a singer/songwriter. Her songwriting skills are far beyond her 27 years, the maturity of her lyrics tells you of her close walk with the Lord. She began writing songs when she was fourteen and started performing on stage when she was seventeen. In addition to her songwriting skills her voice is outstanding, she is not limited in her style, she can shake the rafters and get the crowd excited. She taught herself how to play the guitar and she also plays the mandolin and piano.
Leslie has been on many TV shows from Oklahoma to Nashville to Pigeon Forge, TN and places in between. She has been on the stage with Dixie Carter of Designing Women fame at her Theatre in Tennessee. She has also performed on stages and ministered in churches from Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri and other areas of the United States.
She has been nominated and won many awards. She has won Favorite Female Soloist-Music City Gospel Showcase. She has been nominated for Female Vocalist, Female Horizon, and Female Entertainer at the Country Gospel Music Guild. She won the Joe Shirley Dedicated To Ministry Award at the Country Gospel Music Guild in October 2006. All of her songs that she has released has charted in the Top of the Charts with “Bring The Broken Pieces” going to number 1 and “Jesus Wins Out Every Time” reaching number 2. Her song that she wrote “Home” is currently number 4 on the November chart.
When Rick Wingerter was at the Country Gospel Music Guild Convention in Tennessee this past year, on his way home he visited friends and family in Tahlequah, Ok and decided to drop in and visit Leslie while he was in town. When he got home to Montana he called W.C. and told him, “W.C. that young lady is the real thing, she is totally sold out to the Lord.” If you listen to her album and the songs that she writes you can feel it. I have been wrong about people before but usually with those people it was like a picture hanging on the wall you knew there was something wrong but just couldn’t put your finger on it. Deep in my heart I know this girl is the real thing. When you have a bad experience it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth but when you experience your wonderful sweet God Spirit filled Christians friends and artists it is truly an experience from Heaven. In the beginnings of some of Paul’s letters he uses some words that are to me as sweet as any words that I have ever heard: “I thank my God upon every rememberance of you.” Wouldn’t it be wonderful when people thought of us that they Thanked God for knowing us. In my heart I have many that I thank God I know and Leslie Martin is one of them
If you get a chance to hear Leslie sing or just be around you will be blessed.
