Got drunk at the airport bar, forgot about my flight.
Drank at a Holiday Inn not far from where I spent the night,
on a bench beneath a palm tree in a city park,
I used a bush behind the fountain, but only after dark.

I knew better than that,
I should have gone home where my heart was at,
long before it got so out of hand,
but it tastes so good when it touches your lip,
just can't stop with one more sip,
I thought I'd finally understand, but i knew better than that.

Went out to the old dance hall and bought a lot of drinks,
She was feelin good and lookin fine and given me the winks,
was lookin like I might get lucky outside in my truck,
but she drank one too many drinks and drank away my luck.

I knew better than that,
I should have gone home where my heart was at,
long before it got so out of hand,
but it tastes so good when it touches your lip,
just can't stop with one more sip,
I thought I'd finally understand, but i knew better than that.

I got caught at a gentleman's club, a dollar in my hand.
I only came for the free buffet, but it wasn't like I planned.
Pasties and lingerie and then I felt a tap,
my girl over my left shoulder and stripper in my lap.

I knew better than that,
I should have gone home where my heart was at,
long before it got so out of hand,
but it tastes so good when it touches your lip,
just can't stop with one more sip,
I thought I'd finally understand, but i knew better than that.
