2x4
2x4 - (c) Chuck Schaeffer / Chris Raymond

From high up in the Bad Lands
below the setting sun lived
a famous Prairie lawman who
wouldn't wear a gun

Sheriff Robert Alan Charles
Kennedy the Third,
the RACK as he was better known
hardly spoke a word

From his trusty rocking chair
feet upon the rail
He smelled trouble coming,
would nab it by the tail

Strangers thought him callous
cantankerous and cold
But to women and their children
his heart was good as gold

Actions never questioned
Settled all the scores
The only word ever spoken
came from his faithful 2x4

-------
Verse 2
Well, some outlaws were lucky
from trouble they'd refrain
One look at that 2x4
and out of Dodge again

Others weren't as fortunate
when they fell astray
Jesse James found out the hard way
crime doesn't pay

Went to rob the local bank
like he'd done before, but
saw RACK in the back room
and knew what was in store

Assumed the position
grimacing in fear
"Thank you sir, have another"
the punishment severe

Legend has it
Jesse cried like a baby
As RACK swung that 2x4
"Now you have a good day, Jesse,
and don't come back here, ever!"

Shuffle Bridge
Sometimes you've got to make a stand
or you're bound to take a fall
It's what's inside that makes the man
able to stand tall
It's fam'ly, friends, faith in God
and respect for the law
You can hear the mighty Crack
of RACK's ol' 2x4

Verse 3

When he passed, the townies
gave him one long last parade, 'cause
Generations come and go
but legends never fade

There stands a golden statue now
where RACK stood before
A perfect sculpted testament
a tribute to his lore

The legacy lives forever on
in RACK's mighty 2x4 oh 2x4 yea, that 2x4
