Biography
Diane Thomson is a Canadian dancer, singer, actress, media personality, designer, choreographer, producer and Artistic/Creative Director.
Some of her accomplishments include respected Nominations for Dance, Television and New Media, including a 'Crystal Award' - "Creative Excellence' (W.I.F.T.) and a Governor Generals Award. She is a grant recipient from Canada Council for the Arts and External Affairs International Trade Canada.
As a small child she was encouraged by her late grandmother a respected church organist and her parents.
Although leaving her roots at an early age Diane attributes her multiple talents to growing up in Northwestern Ontario, where creativity is heightened by the the beautiful lakes and scenery, better know as 'God's Country'.
Getting her start singing in the Church, as a Christian performer, she has performed in a variety of church settings. She has performed leading and supporting roles in light opera and musical theater (including 'Hello Dolly', 'Stepping Out' - Mavis, 'My Fair Lady', Principal Performer at the Canada Pavilion, Expo 86 (Vancouver). Her Opera work includes work with Edmonton Opera and Vancouver Opera – ‘Peter Grimes’ under the Direction of Leon Majors. She has been a soprano soloist in such works as 'Handel's Messiah', 'The Atonement' and 'The Majesty of Christmas'.
As a accomplished ballet dancer. Her Principal dance credits include the Imax 3D movie -"Wings Of Courage' – Directed by Jean Jacques Annard. Diane has enjoyed working on numerous films and television shows. Diane has performed with ballet companies including Royal City Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Mobius Dance Company, Los Angles. She has represented the United Church of Canada at the televised Interfaith Conference.
A classical ballet dancer & soprano with jazz studies Diane performs either as a guest performer, in concerts/recitals and special event settings throughout Canada, U.S., Japan, and Europe, both as a dancer and/or singer.
Diane danced in N.Y.C. at the inaugural 9/11 Memorial Services at St. Marks In The Bowery and returns to N.Y. C. on a regular basis to perform.
Diane has successfully worked in almost every area possible within the dance realm. She has taken dance and bridged it with other industries, becoming the first Canadian Dancer to successfully marry dance with technology, creating a 'high level' human simulation engine and becoming a media pioneer.
Helping to create a better community she has founded a special ballet/musical theater program and has helped in a number of other fundraising capacities, whether performing, emceeing an event or televised fundraiser.
Her work has been featured in numerous television shows, newspapers, periodicals and industry magazines.
