Biography
Larry Perkins has taken the music of his musical heroes, Uncle Dave Macon, The Carter Family and Blues Singer, Mississippi John Hurt, and carefully chosen, from his vast number of “friends,” just the right talent , to bring new life and meaning to a collection of 11 tunes written by his “heroes.” For good measure, Larry has added five new instrumentals, written by him, for this album.
More than just a “friends” album, “A Touch of the Past” contains several cuts which have become bluegrass events. Bobby Osborne and Alison Krauss do a duet on “Storms are on the Ocean.” Sonny Osborne and Earl Scruggs record together for the first time ever, along with Larry, John Hartford and Roy Huskey Jr. A new bluegrass duet team emerges with Terry Eldredge and Andrea Zonn singing Uncle Dave’s classic “Wait Till the Clouds Roll By.” Also on the album, recording for the first time in years, is Benny Martin. Other performers include The Reno Brothers, Del, Ron and Rob McCoury, The Williamson Brothers, Mac Wiseman, Mike Bub, Jimmy Campbell, Vassar Clements, Larry Cordle, Glen Duncan, Dewey Farmer, Josh Graves, David Grier, Alisa Jones-Wall, Billy Rose, Ernie Sykes, Leroy Troy, and Gene Wooten.
