Biography
Gene Wooten picked up the Dobro during his college days, when he decided that there were too many other banjo players around. A stint with Wilma Lee Cooper took him to Nashville, where he performed with Country Gazette; recorded with Jimmy Martin, Grandpa and Ramona Jones, Red Taylor; and in 1992 joined The Osborne Brothers’ band. He was nominated for IBMA’s “Dobro Player of the Year” award and won “Dobroist of the Year” from the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America. Gene Wooten died in Nashville, TN on November 7, 2001.
“Don’t Look Now” showcases the wide range of Gene’s talent including the classic and tasteful Dobro work that he become so well known for, not to mention is clear vocals. Guest musicians include Tom Roady, Mike Bub, Charlie Cushman, Terry Smith, Roland White, Terry Eldredge and Shelton Feazell.
