Biography
In his second Pinecastle release, An American Original, Chubby Wise displays his wide ranging ability – from waltzes like “Green Valley Waltz,” to a peppy version of John Philip Sousa’s march “Under the Double Eagle,” to the Western Swing sound made famous by Bob Wills with “Cotton Eyed Joe,” to the ragtime sound of “Stone’s Rag.” There is also a lilting version of “The Eighth of January” from the War of 1812 era that most will recognize as the melody of the folk song “Battle of New Orleans.” The album was produced by a bluegrass legend in his own right, Sonny Osborne, and the studio musicians on the project were all members of the Osborne Brothers band, including both Sonny and Bobby.
