Dan Doiron Band – Livin' Center Stage

It’s a long way from Atlantic Canada to Tennessee, but that’s the journey the Dan Doiron Band is eagerly planning, to kick off their 2018 tour schedule. The band recently won the East Coast Blues Society’s “Maritimes to Memphis” Competition for a second time, awarding them the honour of representing Atlantic Canada at the worlds’ largest Blues competition and networking event, the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis.

Dan Doiron, never one to coast on his laurels, is pulling out all the stops in preparing for this 5 night mammoth talent competition. In addition to reworking the arrangements of some of his tunes, Dan is working on further refinement of his licks and his songs, fully aware that to the experienced judges in the IBC, speed and excessive volume do not go over like they do in bar and festival gigs, nor do cute rhymes strung together with no substance. Dan knows that despite forty years of musical experience in a wide variety of settings, his musical chops as a guitarist, singer, songwriter and bandleader, his passionate stage delivery and his self confidence, he needs to “kick it up a notch”.

“As my journey as a musician continues, I am aware of what a great privilege it is to perform and share my music and stories with my audience. I've always been inspired by the power of music to entertain, provoke thought, suggest solutions and allow us to forget about our problems for awhile. It can be a bit scary as once you put it out there you can't take it back…”

New Album On the Way
The Dan Doiron Band’s triumph in Halifax this time dovetails perfectly with the release of their fourth album Livin’ Centre Stage. “We are so pumped to be returning to this huge blues competition in the birthplace of the blues and are excited to introduce songs from the new cd”, says Doiron.

The band has decided to release the first single in January 2018, in advance of the official cd release in April 2018. The hot new single called Ridin’ The Rods pays tribute to the early ambassadors of the blues. During the golden age of rail travel, the upper class travelled in luxury train coaches while blues musicians like HoneyBoy Edwards and others either rode in the box cars or, if they were locked, they rode underneath the box cars hanging on for their lives as they steamed across the country.
