Biography
Eliza has been musical since an early age, she ‘s been singing since she was three and performing publicly since she was 14. Music is her calling and without it in her life she wouldn’t be the motivated person she is today.
At first her family didn’t think she was that serious about her love of music, so without the help of anybody else Eliza got her first job at 13 in order to pay for singing lessons. At fourteen one of her friends entered her into a talent show (something she would have been too shy to do herself) where she placed third. This was the first public recognition she got from people other than her close friends. A year later she entered the same talent show this time taking first place.
The more she sung, the more she knew that singing was what she wanted to do, and with her high placements in the talent shows she felt nothing but encouraged to continue.
With more people getting to hear her voice she started getting asked to do session work on people’s recordings as back up vocalist as well as lead lines.
Throughout she kept up with her singing lessons as well as writing original material.
At 18 Eliza’s world was turned upside down when her brother was murdered leaving her without her best friend. At first she was uncertain about pursuing singing in a serious way as the person who had most encouraged her was no longer there. Hard as it was at first she found the motivation to continue with music, this time she was doing it for herself and her brother.
After her brother’s death Eliza started the non-profit organization “Ride Free”. With this organization Eliza has put on 7 benefit concerts in 3 years. The money that is being raised is in order to build a skate park on the small island of Gabriola where Eliza grew up. This will give the young locals a place to skate and have fun without having to go off the island to the city.
At one of these concerts she was able to get one of her icons to participate. After the show she was approached by her idol and asked if she would like to audition in the position of new lead singer for the band. She did and she got the spot!!!
At fist things were as good as she hoped but slowly the band began to break up so she started her own band called “Midnight & Eliza”.
By this stage she was playing gigs weekly and doing some session work in Vancouver. At one of the gigs a member of the audience approached Eliza saying that there was somebody they wanted to introduce to her. That person was renowned Canadian producer and musician Pat Coleman.
Eliza and Pat started working together on her debut. The A Team of Vancouver’s session musicians including Bryan Adams’ drummer Pat Stewart were all in on the project. And it goes without saying that the results of the sessions were nothing but good.
With her debut and a lot of good things ahead of her Eliza is ready to take on the world. Music is what she will be doing and she will be going wherever it takes her.
Expect to be hearing more from this young Canadian talent!!!
