Live in Louisville Worldwide (digital) Release - Nov. 24th
While on tour opening for Lucinda Williams in 2007, Carrie Rodriguez & her band recorded, LIVE IN LOUISVILLE. It will be LIVE IN LOUISVILLE will be released digitally (worldwide) on November 24th, 2009. Needless to say, Carrie and her band rose to the occasion. It features her full 12 song set from that night, two of which are Carrie live favorites that appear here on CD for the first time: her cover of “You Won’t Be Satisfied (That Way)” and the instrumental, “Blackberry Blossom”. Other highlights include the performance of “Big Kiss,” and a rockin’ live version of “50’s French Movie.” To quote Carrie, “this (tour) was truly a life altering experience!”
Some early blurbs from reviews on LIVE IN LOUISVILLE:
“...a masterpiece of erotic persuasion,
a haunting meditation of rhythmic sounds.
...a work of voodoo.”
- Shelton Ivany / National News Bureau
“Flirty, dirty and pretty,
Live in Louisville is Rodriguez at her best.”
- Michael Swanger/Des Moines Cityview
“The cinematic scope of "Mask of Moses" and the overly sexual "50's French Movie" will have some listeners thinking Nickel Creek has melted into Sonic Youth.”
- Gene Armstrong/Tucson Weekly
In October, Carrie enters the studio with Producer Lee Townsend (Bill Frisell, etc.) to begin the recording process for her new (as yet untitled album), This time out, Carrie Rodriguez turns to songs and songwriters that have inspired her. Songs lined up were written by Sandrine Daniels, Ava Garza, Merle Haggard, John Hiatt, Walter Hyatt, Buddy Miller, David Rodriguez, Richard Thompson, Townes Van Zandt, M. Ward, Hank Williams, and Lucinda Williams.
Over the years, as part of a duo (with Chip Taylor), as a side-woman (with Alejandro Escovedo), and as a solo artist – Carrie Rodriguez has dazzled critics and audiences alike with her prowess as a musician. With 2006’s solo debut album, SEVEN ANGELS ON A BICYCLE (Trainwreck/Back Porch – EMI) she proved herself as a front person with a vision. With 2008’s follow up, SHE AIN’T ME (Manhattan/Back Porch – EMI) she proved to be a world class songwriter in her own right. With this new album she steps up with a VOICE that places her among the top vocalists of her generation. She does so, as the late great Townes Van Zandt said, “for the sake of the song” and all the songwriters’ represented benefit – as do we all.
Until the new album is released (most likely April 2010), Rodriguez will tour in support of LIVE IN LOUISVILLE - headlining some shows on her own, but mostly touring as part of “packaged” tours. In mid-January through early February, she’ll be part of “an Acoustic Café evening” with her friends Erin McKeown & Ben Sollee. That tour is quickly followed by “The Acoustic Brotherhood Tour” with Los Lonely Boys & Alejandro Escovedo., mid-February through early March. Guessing this time the “Brothers” decided to add some spice by inviting a “Chica”. In March, Carrie will stay come to home in Austin, TX – performing some band shows in the Lone Star state before SXSW festivities.
“...Rodriguez casts and intriguing spell through out. She Ain’t Me is simple, direct and honest..”
- BBC Review/Irish Times
“What can’t she do?” Carrie Rodriguez has rapidly emerged as one of the most compelling new voices on the roots-rock scene. What’s so enticing about Rodriguez’s music is her gift for delivering emotional grit with a winsome sound. Whether flirty, forlorn, or fighting mad, her voice is cool and self-contained,
full of promise and peril.”
– The Boston Globe
Since the release of her last studio album, SHE AIN’T ME, Carrie has mostly headlined shows of her own with her band, trio, as a duo, and even solo. She’s also toured in the UK twice, once solo with Mary Gauthier and again with her trio. She’s also opened some dates this year for Alejandro Escovedo, John Prine, and Lucinda Williams. In Nov. of 2008, she was honored by The Americana Roots Association as “Songwriter of the Year”. She also was honored to appear on Austin City Limits (PBS) which aired internationally. The show also featured Jakob Dylan. “I grew up watching Austin City Limits” Rodriguez said, “so this was a dream come true for me – definitely the highlight of my musical career so far.”
