Veteran bluegrass musician, Doug Flowers (formerly of Little Roy & Lizzy Show, Clinton Gregory, Betty Fisher), hits another home run with this All-Star ensemble. The CD features Favorite songs, songwriters, and singers.
Sam Bush, Marty Rabon, Donna Ulisse, Scott Vestal, Tim Stafford, Jeff White, Cody Kilby, Mike Bub, Randy Hayes, Don Rigsby, Tony Arata, Dustin Benson, Lisa Shaffer,Jason Roller,Gaven Largent,Justin Moses, Jim Iler,Chris Brown, Rickey Rakestraw,Brandon Henson,Torey Flowers, and
Tabor Flowers Henson all lend their talents for this project.

I bought The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” for my dad for Christmas in 1972. I loved the concept of getting great pickers and singers together to record great songs. This project started as a similar idea; to get a group of my Favorite singers, songwriters, and pickers together, almost like a jam session, and record and just have fun making music. Sometimes that means you sing, and sometimes others do. It means sometimes you take a break, and sometimes, others do. Scott Vestal, my co-producer, was on board and we selected the songs and put together a team of All-Stars to make this dream come true.

New Grass Revival made an early impression on me and what an honor to have one of my heroes, Sam Bush, play slide mandolin on this cut. 3. Girl from the Canyon (Jonathan Edwards Copyright A Side Music LIC OBO Castle Hill Music) This is one of my favorites from the J.D. Crowe era. I have always loved Jonathan Edwards writing and singing. Jim “Dawg” Iler does another great job on this song and I was really happy to have 2 former New South members on the project in Don and Randy. Randy worked with Keith Whitley in his country band too.

I first heard this song when John Pennell gave me a copy with the late, great, Harley Allen singing it. I was blown away by the words and his singing. 5. Hello to Grace Today (Douglas O. Flowers-BMI) Marty Raybon is one of the greatest singers of the last 30 years. His work in the Country Band, Shenandoah, is legendary. Marty first impressed me when I saw him in the 70’s when I was working with Betty Fisher and he was with his Family, American Bluegrass Express. It’s an honor to have him sing one that I wrote! I got to see Flatt and Scruggs in Augusta, GA when I was 3. I loved the recordings of the classic Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Boys Band featuring Bill, Lester, Earl, Chubby, and Howard (Cedric), when I was about 5 years old. I was instantly hooked on the sound and have been trying to play this music since. This song, one of my favorite songs from that era, was the first song that featured Earl Scruggs on an up-tempo break. Lead Vocal-Doug Flowers, Tenor Vocal-Don Rigsby. Jim Iler and I met in 1981 at Georgia Southern. Our mutual respect and love of the Stanley Brothers, Keith Whitley and Ricky Skaggs drew us together musically. When J.D. Crowe released the Hall of Fame album, I thought it didn’t get any better. Keith Whitley loved George Jones, and Jim Iler loved George and Keith. Here he does what I think is a fine tribute to them with this remake!

I love Lisa’s writing and this cut is one of my favorites. Lisa had a #1 song in bluegrass with this song as recorded by Darin and Brooke Aldridge.

Besides the original Bluegrass Band, no other group influenced me more than J. D. Crowe and The New South. Loved them with Ricky and Tony, loved them with Keith. For the first time, I could play bluegrass for my friends and not get kidded about it.

11. Dreaming with My Eyes Wide Open (Tony Arata, Copyright EMI APRIL MUSIC INC and SONY/ATV HARMONY)
Tony Arata is one of the greatest songwriters ever, and his song, The Dance, is a classic for all-time. Tony is just the same as he was when he, Jim Iler, Gerald Smith, and I were all attending Georgia Southern College back in the early 1980’s and making music at night. It is an honor to have him do one of his #1 songs; a song that Clay Walker took to the top of the Country charts. The great singer/songwriter, Donna Ulisse lends her talents.

Gerald, the late John Eaton, and I were working musically together at Georgia Southern in the early 1980’s and came up with this one day riding to/back from a gig.
