Biography
25 plus years singing jazz in Portland, Or. Carey started gaining experience at local jam sessions and her professional career began in Portland at the renowned jazz spot "Jazz Quarry" as a featured performer with "Jazz Train" a successful show band led by former Ink Spots member and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Robbie Robinson. She then continued to work steadily in the Pacific Northwest at finer hotels, clubs, concerts, with the areas top musicians before leading her own quartet aboard the famous "Love Boat" for upwards of two years. Returning to Portland she had the opportunity to perform one of her own compositions arranged for a big band at the renowned Mt. Hood Festival of Jazz. Carey spent the next four years as the vocalist in top selling jazz recording artist Leroy Vinnegars group, reestablishing a jazz policy at the well known West coast club Jazz de Opus where all the great jazz artist would play. Together they also delighted the crowds at "Your Zoo and All That Jazz", "Museum After Hours", "Cathedral Park Jazz Festival", three concert series that to this day continue to exist and present only the areas and national top jazz talent. She also concieved and published the 1991 Portland Jazz Calender. Carey also spent many years as a portland jazz radio announcer where her knowledge of the music really deepened, which led to many interviews of big name jazz artists and opportunies to emcee lots of jazz events and jam sessions. Carey also produced her first recording of jazz standards "Under a Blanket of Blue", is currently working on a second effort and continues to be a much in demand vocalist in and around Portland, Oregon.
