Biography
-2015-
It’s a crying shame that there are so few horn-driven blues bands recording today.
Thankfully, The Texas Horns have been blowing audiences away on stages and on record since 1999. Now we finally get to hear them celebrate their own sound on CD with some of their closest friends in the music business.
Mark ‘Kaz’ Kazanoff, John Mills, and Adalberto ‘Al’ Gomez have truly been there – done that – producing and backing a who’s who of blues, soul, and rock bands and taking their brand of fun directly to stages all over North America. These guys have held the spotlight at the big festivals in Ottawa, Chicago, and Portland. Here, Kaz plays his tenor sax and harmonica, and steps up to sing. John blows his swinging bari sax and Al wields his trusty trumpet. These guys get together in Austin to plan their gigs. This time, friends from around the area, Marcia Ball, W.C. Clark, Nick Connoly, Anson Funderburgh, Johnny Nicholas, Derek O’Brien, Frosty Smith and others made the time to help them record the CD they have wanted to put out for years now.
Whether it’s bringing new life to gems like “Caldonia” or “People Get Ready”or introducing their own material – listen to “Soul Stroll” or “Kick Me Again” or “Blues Gotta Hold on Me” – these guys know how to play – romping and stomping – updating that great horn sound from the 40s and 50s. Audiences tired of long guitar solos and wah-wah pedals will be thrilled with The Texas Horns.
