Phil Brown - Imagine This
Phil Brown-celebrated singer/songwriter...ex Little Feat/session 6 7 string avatar guitarist...from Los Alamos, New Mexico. Played with everybody who's had a dream. Los Angelean "native" and then flew to Paris in 2003 and landed a recording contract. CRUEL INVENTIONS sold well in Europe & still a fave... selling well in the US as CRUEL INVENTIONS.
11 songs - Two classic cover tunes on this outing - a smooth/raucous version of Muddy Water's seminal "Rolling and Tumbling" and the Charlie Mingus opus "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat."
Now, if you take a B tuned Les Paul and and Japanese copy of a57 strat with Lollar Specials pu's through an old Marshall 8x10 speaker cabinet and an Ampeg VL-1002 - it's magic. Not your atypical thing! Just livin' the "Charmed Life" - and that's what i'm doin'!
"Cruel Inventions" excels in the two areas where most "guitar player" records fall short: singing and songs. General music lovers will be attracted to a record with some great grooves, great vocals and most important real tunes - a rare enough combination in any genre. "Cruel Inventions" is a mature work in the very best sense of the word. There is a feeling of a life lived. Though his sources may be close to the surface, his own personality shines through, something else that is too rare these days.
