Biography
Charlie McCoy, the Hall of Fame harmonica virtuoso, invites country legends to collaborate on Lonesome Whistle: A Tribute to Hank Williams. “The stories and laughs shared in the studio on this record truly allowed us to bring Hank’s spirit into this record,” recalls Charlie. “Getting to share this vision with Roy, Ricky and Jett was a bonus that an artist dreams of when they layout the groundwork for a tribute to a country music icon.”

This DiamonDisc Records album is part vocal, part instrumental, part memories and part interviews, similar to an old time radio show, which manages to stay this side of hip and not hokey. Ten of Williams’ classics are featured along with an original tune by Charlie, The Hank Williams Song. Joining Charlie is Hank’s daughter, Jett Williams who adds her own soulful renditions of Your Cheatin’ Heart, Jambalaya, and through the miracles of technology, a duet on I Saw The Light with her Dad and his band, The Drifting Cowboys. Rounding out the production are fellow Hall of Famer Roy Clark, who was also inducted with Charlie in 2009, and ten time Grammy winner, multi-talented instrumentalist/singer bluegrass mainstay, Ricky Skaggs. Clark and Skaggs romp through Mind Your Own Business, which is the first single off of the album, swapping vocals and sassy licks that are easily detectable through the recording. Also featured on this nostalgic love letter are Grammy winner, Country Music Hall of Famer, Harold Bradley and co-producer, engineer and frequent collaborator, Eric Paul.

McCoy has logged nearly 50 years in the music business having played with a who’s who of musical talent on such seminal offerings as Simon & Garfunkel’s The Boxer and Bob Dylan’s Nashville SkyLine. Lonesome Whistle features McCoy on such Hank Williams’ classics as I Heard the Lonesome Whistle Blow and I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, which are made even more compelling with the addition of McCoy’s woeful harmonica.
