NEW CD "IRELAND IN MY ROOTS"
DOWNLOAD NOW!

Ireland in My Roots by American-Swedish folk musician David Rice delivers jaunty tunes and impressive talent to fans of Celtic music. From the first ballad "A Ship Called Tripoli" to the beautiful closing track "The Rain," Rice and his band bring out the energy and history of the Irish countryside as well as famous seaside communities. Other standout songs include the pub anthem interlude "Morrison's Jig," as well as "Three Drunken Maidens" as an authentic example of the artist's storytelling talents and his individual voice.
With intricate instrumentals and traditional vocals, Ireland in My Roots is true to Irish and Celtic harmony to get the listener up and dancing or singing along to the story. Blending Irish history with his defined appreciation of the country, David Rice succeeds as a voice in the genre. The Celtic cross on the album cover is another give away that Ireland In My Roots is one album to look out for. New review.
David Rice is an American folk musician and music teacher who studied music at the University of Denver, Colorado, but has lived in Sweden for a long time. He lives in Örebro, with a strong predilection for the Celtic and Irish. On the album Ireland in my roots, Rice plays guitar, banjo, bass, piano, castanets and the Irish hand drum bodhran. He even plays a couple of Irish wooden spoons on the record. Rice also sings and fixes the harmonies that adorn the vocal performance on their own.
To help him, he has Lars Ljungberg on mandolin, Kristin Landh on violin and Markus Mattsson on penny whistle, a tin flute. On a track Black Widow, the Persian hand drum is heard tombak, in a jump-in by Behrooz Karami. The songs include narrative ballads, reels, polka and the pub-friendly Morrison's jig and Three drunken maidens. And then Elves in the forest, which is His own new words, with Swedish traditional melody “ I fjol så gick jag med herrarna i hagen”.
The joy of playing is great, the performances more than convincing. Ireland in my roots is very good listening. A truly home-made record, but it sounds about as professional as any normal edition. Welcome to 2021, 2022 and Ireland's past - at the same time.
